The Hammadit period in Algeria covers the era of the Berber Hammadid dynasty, which reigned from 1014 to 1152. Hammad ibn Bologhine founded this dynasty after a split in the Zirid kingdom. It is famous for its fortified capital, the Kalâa des Beni Hammad, and for the transformation of Béjaïa into a major cultural and commercial center.
