The Ali La Pointe Museum is a museum located in the Casbah of Algiers, Algeria. It is dedicated to the memory of Ali La Pointe, whose real name was Ali Ammar, an iconic figure of the Algerian War of Independence.

The museum was inaugurated on October 8, 2007, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ali La Pointe’s death. It is located at 5 rue des Abdérames, at the exact spot where Ali La Pointe and his companions died on October 8, 1957, during the Battle of Algiers.

Biography of Ali La Pointe

Ali La Pointe, born Ali Ammar on May 14, 1930, in Miliana, Algeria, came from a poor family. His nickname “La Pointe” comes from the Pointe des blagueurs district in Miliana. Uneducated, he had a difficult youth marked by several run-ins with the law.

His involvement with the National Liberation Front (FLN) began in 1954 while he was serving a prison sentence. Convinced by FLN militants to join the independence cause, he escaped and contacted Yacef Saadi, one of the FLN leaders in Algiers. Ali La Pointe quickly became a key member of the FLN in the Casbah of Algiers, responsible for enforcing revolutionary directives and participating in several armed operations during the Battle of Algiers.

Ali La Pointe’s end came on October 8, 1957. After the arrest of Yacef Saadi on September 24, he became one of the last FLN leaders still at large in the Casbah. His hideout at 5 rue des Abdérames was located by the French army. Refusing to surrender, he died in the explosion of the house, alongside three other FLN members: Hassiba Ben Bouali, Petit Omar, and Mahmoud Bouhamidi. This event marked the end of the Battle of Algiers.
